Premier Division Cup | Risborough Rangers 2-1 Kings Langley

A stunning 95th-minute winner from Josh Williams saw Risborough Rangers snatch a dramatic 2-1 victory over Kings Langley in an entertaining Premier Division Cup encounter.

With the tie seemingly heading for penalties, Williams produced a moment of individual brilliance, lifting the ball over Kings Langley goalkeeper Kurylowics to send the home supporters into wild celebrations.

It was a remarkable ending to a contest that had seen both sides enjoy spells of dominance, plenty of chances and some outstanding goalkeeping.

Kings Langley Start the Stronger

The visitors began the evening firmly on the front foot, creating two excellent opportunities inside the opening ten minutes.

George Hughes was the first to threaten, finding space in the eighth minute before firing his effort over the crossbar.

Just two minutes later, Edu raced through on goal with a golden opportunity to open the scoring, but dragged his effort wide when he really should have done better.

Kings Langley continued to dominate the early exchanges, with Risborough struggling to get a foothold in the contest.

However, the hosts gradually began to grow into the game.

Rock fired over in the 23rd minute before a tactical adjustment saw Josh Williams move into a wider position, a change that immediately started causing problems for the visitors.

The Risborough supporters were also making themselves heard, creating a fantastic atmosphere around the ground.

Rock Finishes a Stunning Counter-Attack

The breakthrough arrived in the 31st minute, and it was a goal worth waiting for.

From a Kings Langley corner, Risborough launched a devastating counter-attack, moving the ball from one end of the pitch to the other in just three passes.

Rock was on hand to apply the finishing touch, calmly slotting home to give the hosts a 1-0 advantage.

It was a brilliant example of counter-attacking football.

Kings Langley almost responded immediately, with Hughes breaking into the penalty area just two minutes later, only to see his effort flash narrowly wide.

The game had suddenly burst into life.

Williams then fired wide for Risborough in the 35th minute, while Luke Warner-Ely tried his luck from an ambitious 40 yards shortly before the interval, but his effort sailed over.

The hosts went into the break holding a slender 1-0 advantage.

Matthews Brings Kings Langley Level

The visitors wasted little time restoring parity after the restart.

Just five minutes into the second half, Matthews found the net to make it 1-1 and set up a fascinating final 40 minutes.

Kings Langley looked the more threatening side immediately after the equaliser, with Hughes continuing to cause all sorts of problems for the Risborough defence.

In the 56th minute, he beat his marker before forcing the home goalkeeper into an excellent save.

With the visitors pushing forward, Risborough made changes in an attempt to regain control of the contest.

Chances at Both Ends

As the match entered its final quarter, the game became increasingly stretched.

Kings Langley’s goalkeeper was called into action in the 69th minute, producing a fine save to keep the scores level.

A minute later, Risborough squandered a glorious opportunity to regain the lead.

Williams delivered an inviting ball across the penalty area to the unmarked Smith, who looked certain to score, but somehow failed to hit the target.

It was a huge let-off for Kings Langley.

With 15 minutes remaining, the tie remained finely balanced, and with no extra time scheduled, penalties were looming.

The visitors then came agonisingly close to taking the lead in the 79th minute.

Warner-Ely whipped a dangerous delivery into the penalty area, where Bridle-Card diverted the ball onto the crossbar.

Both teams continued searching for a winner as the clock ticked towards 90 minutes.

Kurylowics Heroics Look Set to Force Penalties

The closing stages belonged to Risborough, but they found Kings Langley goalkeeper Kurylowics in inspired form.

The visiting number one produced a crucial stop in the 90th minute before pulling off another outstanding save four minutes into stoppage time.

His heroics appeared to have done enough to take the contest to a penalty shootout.

But football has a habit of producing the unexpected.

Williams Produces a Moment of Magic

Deep into the fifth minute of added time, Josh Williams delivered the decisive moment.

With Kurylowics having frustrated the home side repeatedly, Williams produced a sensational finish, lifting the ball over the Kings Langley goalkeeper and into the net.

It was a finish of the highest quality and sparked jubilant scenes among the Risborough players and supporters.

There was simply no time for Kings Langley to respond.

The final whistle confirmed a dramatic 2-1 victory for the hosts and their place in the next round of the Premier Division Cup.

Final Thoughts

Kings Langley will undoubtedly feel disappointed after enjoying the better of the opening stages and creating several excellent opportunities throughout the evening.

Hughes was a constant threat, while Kurylowics produced a string of impressive saves that deserved better reward.

But Risborough showed tremendous character, growing into the contest after a difficult opening and continuing to push for victory right until the final whistle.

Rock’s first-half counter-attacking goal was excellent, but it was Williams who stole the headlines with a truly memorable late winner.

A fantastic advert for Spartan South Midlands League football, a brilliant cup tie and a finish that those in attendance won’t forget in a hurry.
